Head of External Relations

Ventus are seeking an experienced Head of External Relations to join a leading offshore wind developer in Scotland.
As the Head of External Relations and Policy, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of our stakeholder engagement, government relations, and policy advocacy efforts across Scotland and the UK. You will serve as the company’s key spokesperson and relationship-builder with government bodies, industry groups, regulatory agencies, and local communities, ensuring that our offshore wind projects are developed in alignment with evolving energy policy and stakeholder expectations.
Main Accountabilities:
Government & Policy Engagement
Lead the company’s engagement with Scottish Government, UK Government, Marine Scotland, Crown Estate Scotland, and other relevant regulatory bodies.
Monitor, analyze, and respond to policy developments affecting offshore wind, grid infrastructure, supply chain, and net zero targets.
Represent the company in consultations and industry forums (e.g., Scottish Renewables, RenewableUK).
Shape and influence energy policy to support the growth and viability of offshore wind projects.
External Relations & Stakeholder Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with local communities, NGOs, trade associations, and public sector partners.
Oversee external communication strategies in relation to policy, permitting, and project development.
Manage the company’s reputation and ensure alignment with ESG goals, just transition principles, and community benefit expectations.
Lead stakeholder mapping and develop comprehensive engagement strategies for key projects.
Strategic Communications
Develop and deliver strategic messaging for public policy matters, media relations, and high-level briefings.
Act as spokesperson when appropriate in public forums, media, and industry events.
Collaborate closely with corporate communications and project development teams.
Team Leadership & Budget Management
Manage a small team of policy and external affairs professionals and external consultants.
Oversee relevant budgets, including policy campaigns, stakeholder events, and consultancy services.
Requirements:
Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in government affairs, policy, or external relations—preferably within renewable energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors.
Proven track record of engaging with Scottish Government, UK regulators, and other public stakeholders.
Deep understanding of Scottish and UK energy policy frameworks and offshore wind regulation.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience working in a politically sensitive environment with high public visibility.
Relevant degree in public policy, political science, environmental science, or related field.
