Lead Grid Engineer - Offshore Wind
Location - Edinburgh or Glasgow (Hybrid)
Ref - LGEOW
Ventus are seeking a Lead Grid Engineer to join an offshore wind developer in the Central Belt.
The selected candidate will oversee the end-to-end electrical system design of a major offshore wind development, from early conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement, manufacturing, installation, testing, and final grid connection.
Main Accountabilities:
Lead the planning and delivery of the project’s grid connection, ensuring full compliance with applicable agreements and national codes and standards (e.g., Grid Code, SQSS).
Develop and manage the electrical system design, producing technical specifications for key components such as inter-array and export cables, onshore and offshore substations, and SCADA systems.
Own and manage the Bilateral Connection and Construction Agreements, engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment and progress.
Provide technical guidance across the portfolio on issues of grid compliance, system performance, and asset integrity during both design and operational phases.
Ensure all engineering decisions are properly justified, documented, and managed to support future regulatory processes, such as asset divestment under applicable regulatory frameworks.
Identify and coordinate the need for internal and external specialist support in electrical and grid matters.
Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff, including line management responsibility for at least one electrical engineer.
Qualifications:
A degree in electrical or mechanical engineering (or equivalent). Other academic backgrounds may be considered where candidates can demonstrate the required experience and knowledge.
Experience:
At least 10 years of experience in the energy or power sector.
Proven track record in electrical system design or management for high-voltage systems (up to 400kV), especially in offshore wind or related transmission infrastructure.
Technical Competencies:
Deep understanding of electrical system analysis, studies, and design methodologies.
Strong working knowledge of national regulatory frameworks governing grid connection and system operation (e.g., Grid Code, SQSS).
Experience engaging with transmission system operators and familiarity with the processes required to secure and maintain grid connections.
