Senior Cables Engineer - Transmission

As Senior Cable Engineer, you will be the discipline lead for cable engineering, overseeing the design, compliance, and delivery of all cable-related aspects of the network projects. You’ll work closely with consultants, contractors, customers, and other network owners, ensuring designs meet technical standards, safety regulations, and operational requirements. This role reports directly to the Head of Engineering and plays a pivotal role in cross-discipline coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Management
Act as the primary contact for cable engineering design matters from concept through to energisation.
Oversee and manage all aspects of cable engineering design, including changes and compliance updates.
Ensure designs comply with CDM regulations and safety considerations throughout design and construction.
Standards, Policies & Procedures
Develop and maintain engineering procedures and policies to ensure high-quality, consistent designs.
Support policy changes that improve engineering design efficiency.
Drive adherence to technical standards to ensure network robustness.
Project Delivery & Coordination
Support project development and delivery teams to ensure timely, safe, and cost-effective cable solutions.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and departments to meet programme deadlines.
Provide accurate monthly progress and risk management reports to the Head of Engineering.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build positive working relationships with internal stakeholders to foster collaboration.
Liaise with other network owners, operators, and customers on cable engineering matters.
Participate in working groups to contribute to network development.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
Support the Head of Engineering in driving innovation and efficiency.
Promote the organisation’s business objectives across teams.
Monitor, report, and manage cable engineering risks.
Experience
Degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
Proven track record as a cable engineer in project delivery within the energy or infrastructure sectors.
Demonstrated experience managing cable engineering design from concept through to delivery.
Experience applying health, safety, and design compliance requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Knowledge and experience of working to recognised engineering standards for connecting projects to an electrical network.
