Ventus has been retained by a leading energy consultancy, headquartered in the UK, to appoint a Principal Environmental Consultant, focusing on marine EIA and consenting work on behalf of interconnector and cables client.

This role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong track record in leading marine licensing and environmental assessment scopes, particularly for subsea interconnector and cable projects.

You will act as a trusted point of contact and subject specialist for key clients such, support business development and contributing to the growth of our delivery line. You’ll also provide Consent Manager level support on environmental scopes, secondments and help upskill junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Lead marine licensing and environmental assessment scopes for major infrastructure projects.

• Provide high-quality QA/QC of complex deliverables.

• Support business development through client engagement and opportunity identification.

• Deliver discrete and long-term scopes.

• Mentor and develop junior consultants.

Required Experience

• Experience in landfall site selection and cable route optioneering.

• Familiarity with managing marine licence condition discharge phases and consent plans (CEMPs, MMMPs, CSIPS/CBPPs).

• Experience supporting installation phase consent requirements.

• Knowledge of the DCO process and marine environmental topics (e.g., ecology, ornithology, geology, navigation).

Qualifications, Skills & Behaviours

• Proven experience in leading the development and consenting of significant subsea power cable projects.

• Strong knowledge of UK marine consenting regimes and legislation (Marine Licensing, UNCLOS, seabed leasing, protected species licensing).

• Developed understanding of subsea cable technologies and installation methodologies.

• Extensive experience preparing Scoping Reports, EIAs, and Habitats Regulations reports.

• Excellent project management and commercial awareness.

• Strong stakeholder engagement and technical writing skills.
